Living on the streets had put Logan in tight spots before. He had always managed to figure out a way to come through everything with flying colors. La Bonita wasn't exactly New York city, or Chicago, the crime rate here had always been relatively manageable. Sure, you got a lot of crimes of opportunity, but truly violent crime was rare.

At least, it had been before Julio had set up shop. Backed by a drug cartel from his home island, Julio had been met with little resistance when he arrived. Catalejo island had been ripe for the picking. He was clever enough to keep the police from being able to pin anything on him and ruthless enough to ensure absolute loyalty within the ranks of his organization.

If you were among the homeless population, you either worked for Julio or you got the hell out of his way. There was no in between.

For Logan, the stakes had been even higher. Many people had thought he was just Julio's toy. The pretty thing he kept around to amuse himself. Maybe it had started that way, but he had eventually earned Julio's trust. He had become one of Julio's closest confidants. Confidant might have been stretching it a little. The reality was more that Logan had been Julio's living diary. He recorded all of his secrets and the inner workings of his mind.

That sort of constant barrage of someone else's emotional baggage had been one of the any reasons he had had enough of life at Julio's side. Unfortunately for Logan, Julio wasn't going to risk letting his diary fall into anyone else's hands.

"He said to tell you, 'it's not personal. It was always going to end like this.'" The thug standing in Logan's room said as he leveled a pistol at him.

Logan sat on the bed underneath the window in the small room on the second floor of the soup kitchen. He knew better than to cry or plead. His chest was tight and felt as if his heart had ceased to beat. Looking down the barrel of that gun was like looking at your own headstone in a cemetery. It felt wrong. Yet there was nothing he could do to change it. This was his reality now.

"Did you have anything to say?" the thug was being extremely polite, probably on Julio's orders. For all of his ruthlessness, bordering on insanity sometimes, Julio had an extremely friendly demeanor most of the time. Whether that was just the mask he wore or his true face was something Logan had never managed to find out.

Logan swallowed. His throat had gone dry. His brain was still struggling to process the fact that he would likely meet his end here.

"I...I think..." Logan looked away from the gun. Even when he closed his eyes he could still picture it pointed directly at him. He took a deep, calming, breath and steadied himself. If he was going to die, he was going to face it head on. He looked back at the thug, past the barrel of the gun, and locked eyes with him.
